Khelo India Para Games 2025: Haryana Topped the Medal Tally with 34 Golds.

Haryana topped the medal tally with 104 medals (34 Gold, 39 Silver, 31 Bronze) in the 2nd edition of the Khelo India Para Games (KIPG) 2025, a multi-sport para event under the Government of India’s (GoI) Khelo India initiative held in New Delhi, Delhi from 20 to 27 March 2025.

  • Tamil Nadu (TN) claimed the 2nd position with 74 medals (28 Gold, 19 Silver, 27 Bronze), and Uttar Pradesh (UP) claimed the 3rd position with 64 medals (23 Gold, 21 Silver, 20 Bronze) in the overall standings
  • This is the 2nd time Haryana has finished on top of the team standings, claiming the winners’ trophy.

Points to Note:

i.In December 2023, Haryana topped the medal tally with 105 medals, securing 1st place in the KIPG 2023, held in New Delhi. UP and TN finished 2nd and 3rd on the KIPG 2023 medals tally, respectively.

ii.KPIG 2025 was held at 3 venues in New Delhi – Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Indoor Stadium, Indira Gandhi (IG) Indoor Stadium, and Karni Singh Shooting Range (KSSR).

iii.Ujjwala is the Official Mascot of the 2nd KIPG 2025. The design of Ujjwala is inspired by the house sparrow of Delhi symbolising the pride and fighting spirit of the city.

  • Like the house sparrow of Delhi, ‘Ujjwala’ embodies the pride, spirit, and perseverance of para-athletes.

Key Points:

i.Jaspreet Kaur became the 1st athlete in KIPG 2025 to break a national record.

  • She claimed the gold medal in the 45-kilogram (kg) category, lifting 101 kg, surpassing her previous best of 100kg.

ii.Seema Rani from Punjab set a new national record by lifting 97 kg in the women’s elite 61 kg category. She won her 2nd consecutive gold medal.

iii.Jhandu Kumar from Bihar lifted 206 kg in the men’s elite 72 kg category, upgrading from a silver medal in 2023 to gold in 2025.

iv.Mona Agarwal (Rajasthan), a Paris 2024 Paralympics bronze medallist, won gold in the Mixed 50m Prone SH1 event with a score of 243.3.

  • She also secured 2 silver medals in women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 and mixed 10m air rifle prone SH2 categories.

About the Khelo India Para Games:

i.The KIPG aims to elevate the standard of para-sports in India, providing para-athletes with a national platform to compete at the highest level.

ii.The KIPG 2025 event featured 6 sports disciplines: Para Archery, Para Athletics, Para Badminton, Para Table Tennis, Para Powerlifting, and Para Shooting.

  • It witnessed the participation of around 1,230 para-athletes representing 36 States and Union Territories (UTs)across India.

iii.The Khelo India Scheme is the flagship Central Sector Scheme of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS). Organised under the ‘Khelo India – National Programme for Development of Sports’ launched in October 2017.

iv.List of Khelo Games,  Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG), Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG), Khelo India University Games (KIUG) and Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG).

Note: Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2025 is scheduled to be held in 5 districts of Bihar, namely Patna, Nalanda (Rajgir), Bhagalpur, Gaya, and Begusarai, from 4 to 15 May 2025.
