Karnataka-govt-signs-agreement-with-Tata-TechnologiesThe Government of Karnataka entered into an agreement with Tata Technologies to upgrade and modernize 150 Government ITIs (Industrial Training Institute) at a cost of INR 4, 636.50 Crores to create increased employment opportunities to youth of the state.

The Agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa, President, Asia Pacific, Tata Technologies, Anand Bhade, and Secretary to Government, Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, S Selvakumar in Bengaluru, Karnataka

Key Points:

i.Each ITI will be upgraded at the cost of INR 30 Crore and duration of agreement is ten years and nine months.

ii.More than One Lakh Youth are expected to benefit each year.

iii.Tata Technologies will modernise 150 ITIs with new infrastructure, industry-oriented courseware, training and support for advanced equipment and software to benefit the students for better employment opportunities.

Other Components of the Agreement:

i.The agreement will help in the transformation of Karnataka’s ITIs into skill training hubs of Global Standards.

ii.Tata Technologies will strengthen training, counselling and placement cells to train, guide and create employment opportunities.

iii.Laboratories would be upgraded by setting up new machinery and technology.

iv.Actions will be taken to plan appropriate syllabus based on the demands of Industry 4.0 with focus on Electric Vehicles, Agricultural Machinery, aerospace and defence, horticulture and smart city.

v.300 trainers from Tata Technologies and Associate industries will impart training in the 150 ITIs. Students will be provided online training too.

vi.Students from other ITIs, Polytechnics and Engineering colleges can avail training facilities in the ITIs.

Upgradation in First Phase:

Government ITIs of Peenya, Hosur road, Ballari, Mysuru, Dastikoppa and Shikaripura will be upgraded in the first phase.

Funding:

i.Apart from Tata Technologies, 20 other companies are contributing INR 4, 080 crores from their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) for the programme.

ii.The remaining INR 657 Crore will be provided by Karnataka Government.

iii.The ITIs will be upgraded to provide Industry 4.0 based training for better employment opportunities to ITI skilled students.

iv.Government is initiating 10 new courses based on the demands of the industries which will enable youth to have excellent skills based on industry demands.

There are 1, 713 ITIs in the state, out of which 270 are Government-run and around 1.8 Lakh students are skilled in ITIs each year.
