On January 7, 2021 Justice Raghvendra Singh(R S) Chauhan was sworn in as the Chief Justice(CJ) of Uttarakhand High Court(HC). Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia was appointed as the CJ of Gauhati HC.

He was sworn in as CJ of Uttarakhand HC administered by Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya in Raj Bhawan in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.He was transferred from Telangana HC to Uttarakhand HC.
Succeeds
He succeeds Justice Ramesh Ranganathan who retired in July, 2020. After his retirement, Justice Ravi Vijaykumar(R.V.) Malimath was appointed as acting CJ of Uttarakhand HC.
Note- Prior to his appointment as CJ of Uttarakhand HC, R S Chauhanwas CJ of Telangana.
The President of India in exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India transfer the CJ of HC to another.
About Justice Raghvendra Singh(R S) Chauhan:
i.He was enrolled as an Advocate on November 13, 1983 and practiced in the Rajasthan High Court, Jaipur Bench for 20 years
ii.He was appointed as Acting CJ of Telangana HC on 04th April, 2019 and later was elevated as CJ of Telangana HC on 22nd June, 2019.

Appointment
The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind appointed Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia, as CJ of Gauhati HC with effect from the date he assumed charge of his office.
Succeeds
He takes over the charge from Justice Nongmeikapam(N) Kotiswar Singh, who was appointed as the acting CJ of the Gauhati HC after the retirement of Justice Ajai Lamba in September 2020.
Note– Prior to his appointment as CJ of Gauhati HC, he was a judge of the Uttarakhand HC.
The Chief Justice and Judges of the High Courts are appointed by the President under clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution.
About Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia:
i.He was enrolled as an Advocate on July 07, 1986 and practiced in the Allahabad and Uttarakhand HC.
ii.He was appointed as Permanent Judge of the Uttarakhand High Court on November 1, 2008.
