Asian College of Journalism(ACJ) award 2019 was conferred upon Journalist Nitin Sethi for investigative journalism and K P Narayana Kumar Memorial Award 2019 for Social Impact Journalism is bestowed upon Journalist Shiv Sahay Singh. The awards were presented in a virtual ceremony by Soumya Swaminathan, chief scientist of the World Health Organisation(WHO), at the inauguration of the Class of 2021.
Nitin Sethi
He is a journalist in the Huffington post. He won Investigative Journalism award for his six-part series titled “Paisa Politics” published by The Huffington Post India.
Shiv Sahay Singh
He is a journalist in The Hindu. He received the K P Narayana Kumar Memorial Award for his story titled “Death by digital exclusion: On faulty public distribution system in Jharkhand” published in The Hindu.
Award’s trophies, citations and cash Prize
Both awards comprise trophies, citations. In addition to these, the Investigative Journalism Award winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs and the K P Narayana Kumar Memorial Award Social Impact Award winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 1 lakhs.
Jury- The final jury includes, Journalist Senthil Chengalvarayan (Chairperson), Vidya Subrahmaniam and Jose Martin Tharakan
Special Mentions by the Jury
The work “Kerala’s Contentious Quarries” of Jeff Joseph Paul Kadicheeni published in The Lede and Rohini Mohan’s “Worse than a death sentence: Inside Assam’s sham trials that could strip millions of citizenship” in Scroll.in were the special mentions by the Jury in the Investigative Journalism Category.

ACJ with the support of the Media Development Foundation, has instituted two awards to recognise and encourage the best works of investigative journalism and journalism for social impact produced for an Indian audience.
Purpose of the awards– To promote journalism in the public interest.
