At the Times Of India Sports awards function, graced by legendary Carl Lewis, marks man Jitu Rai  was declared as the  Sports person Of the year.

Milkha Singh got ”Lifetime Achievement Of The Year” from the legendary Olympic Champion Carl Lewis and Times Group MD Vineet Jain in a ceremony that was attended by India’s sporting people.

 

  • Other sports persons like Saurav Ganguly,Olympic Bronze medallist Mary Kom,badminton player Saina Nehwal,CWG gold medallist Dipika Pallikal etc.
  • Davis cuppper Ramesh Krishnan,Olympic gold medallist hockey player Zafar Iqbal,World championship Bronze medallist Anju Bobby George,Ganguly etc formed the jury panel.
  • Jury’s unanimous choice was Jitu Rai whereas champion cueist Pankaj Advani bagged the Popular Choice Awards.
  • Upcoming or emerging player award went to young shooter Malaika Goel along with five others.
  • Weightlifter Sanjitha Channu won Popular Choice Awards.
  • Virat kohli won the best cricketer award in men’s category while in the women’s category the award went toHarmanpreet Singh.
  • Saina Nehwal won the Youth Icon of the Year
  • For  Table Tennis , award went to Achantha Sharath Kamal, Vikas Gowda got award for Athletics, Yogeshwar dutt for Wrestling,Anirban Lahiri for Golf, Viswanathan Anand for Chess, RaniRampal and Sreejish won female and male category awards in Hockey.
  • Sania Mirza for Tennis,Sarita Devi and Mary kom for Boxing, Sathish Sivalingam for Weightlifting.
  • Kushbir Kaur,Amit kumar Dahita,Chikkarangappa, Sanjita Chanu and Vinesh Phogat recieved for Emerging Players category.

  • Jitu Rai is a shooter of nepalese origin, who takes part in 10mtr air pistol and 50mtr  metre pistol events.
  • Born on28th August 1987 in nepal.
  • In the 2014 CommonWealth Games, Jitu Rai won gold medal in the 50metre category.
  • In the 2014 Asian Games, Jitu won gold medal in the 50metre category.
