ABOUT THE THIRD UN WORLD CONFERENCE
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Resolution will hold a meeting on disaster risk reduction this weekend (14-18 March), with policymakers gathering in Japan. The conference will open in the northeastern city of Sendai on Saturday (14th March 2015).
Ban, who will attend the gathering, has highlighted the rise in extreme weather as global warming has accelerated over the past 10 years. ‘Disaster risk reduction is a front-line defense against climate change and it is essential for sustainable development,’ he said in New York on Wednesday.
- To completely assess and review the implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action.
- To use the experience of institutions and their recommendations for disaster risk reduction.
- To adopt a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction.
- To identify the particular mode of cooperation based on commitments to implement a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction.
