ISSF World Championships 2023: India Finished 3rd With 14 Medals

ISSF World Championships 2023India won 14 medals (6 golds and 8 bronze) and secured third place in the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championships 2023 held in Baku, Azerbaijan from 14th August to 1st September 2023.

  • China topped the medal tally with 28 medals (15 golds, 7 silver and 6 bronze)  followed by Ukraine in second place with 12 medals(6 gold,  4 silver and 2 bronze).
  • ISSF World Championship 2023 is also a qualifying event for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

India’s Olympic Qualifiers:

i.Four of the Indian contigents have qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics in this event including

  • Rajeshwari Kumari (women’s trap)
  • Sift Kaur Samra (women’s 50m rifle 3 positions)
  • Akhil Sheoran (men’s 50m rifle 3 positions)
  • Mehuli Ghosh (women’s 10m air rifle)

Highlights:

i.Amanpreet Singh won a gold medal in the men’s 25m standard pistol while Shiva Narwal and Esha Singh won gold medal in the mixed 10m air pistol team event.

ii.Indian women’s team of Rhythm Sangwan, Esha Singh and Manu Bhaker  clinched the gold medal in the 25m women’s pistol event.

iii.The 50m pistol women’s team comprising Tiyana, Sakshi Suryavanshi and Kirandeep Kaur won the gold medal.

  • Mehuli Ghosh, Tilottama Sen and Ramita won the gold medal in the women’s 10m air rifle team event.

iv.Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Niraj Kumar and Akhil Sheoran won the gold medal in the 50m rifle 3 positions men’s team.

About ISSF World Championships 2023:

i.The 53rd edition of the ISSF World Championships (2023) witnessed the participation of 1,329 shooters from 101 countries for 36 medal events in the Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun categories.

ii.It also offered 48 quota places to the participating shooters for the Paris Olympic Games 2024.
