ISRO & IIT-BHU Signs MoU to Set-up Regional Academic Center for Space (RAC-S) at IIT-BHU

ISRO-to-set-up-Regional-Academic-Center-for-Space-(RAC-S)-at-IIT-BHUOn December 23, 2020 Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) signed Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) with Indian Institute of Technology(IIT)-Banaras Hindu University(BHU) to set up its Regional Academic Centre for Space(RAC-S) at the institute. This will enable advanced research in the future technology of the Indian space program.

Purpose– To ease the short and long term projects at the institute so as to advance  the research and development culture among students.

Key People

The MoU was virtually signed by  Prof Pramod Kumar Jain, IIT(BHU) director on behalf of the institute and  P V Venkatakrishnan, the director of Capacity Building Programme Office (CBPO), ISRO on behalf of ISRO.

Points to be Noted

The institute will lead and be the project monitor of RAC-S,  in which Institutes of Excellence in the field of science and technology in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will be involved in various research and development activities.

Highlights of RAC-S:

Projects

i.The short term projects for the students of BTech and MTech from the  institute and associate institutes will also be included.

ii.The Long term R&D projects that lead to the PhD programme will be offered.

iii.In order to strengthen the knowledge base in the field, the capacity building programmes including conferences, exhibitions, and short courses will  be organised.

Benefits

i.RAC-S of ISRO will act as a major facilitator to promote space technology activities in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

ii.IIT(BHU) will act as a catalyst for ISRO’s capacity building, awareness creation and R&D activities.

iii.To increase the utilisation of research potential, infrastructure and expertise available at ISRO and IIT(BHU), the activities of RAC-S will be directed.
