IOM-UN Migration signs MOU with CII

On September 16, 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the United Nations (UN)-International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to collaborate on strengthening the safe migration of Indian citizens.

Signatories:

Sanjay Awasthi, IOM’s Head of Office; and Sougata Roy Choudhary, CII’s Executive Director

Objective:

To create opportunities for these two entities to collaborate on a range of initiatives related to the safe, orderly, and regular migration of Indian skilled professionals and youth internationally.

Key Points:

i.Under this MoU, IOM will offer a range of opportunities to CII to further its commitment regarding global migration of skilled professionals.

ii.On the other hand, CII will bring on board its ongoing initiatives around skills training and equipping professionals for employment opportunities within India and internationally.

iii.IOM is part of the United Nations (UN) as the leading inter-governmental organization promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all, since 1951. It has 174 member states and a presence in over 100 countries.

CII to adopt over 35,000 TB patients as part of TB eradication program

The CII has decided to adopt over 35,000 tuberculosis (TB) patients by providing nutritional support. In this regard, it is working closely with Central TB Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW).

  • This adoption is a part of the Central Government’s TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, and to eradicate TB from India by 2025 through TB Free Workplaces Campaign.
  • It has committed over Rs 25 crore for the same.
  • CII signed an MoU with the Central TB Division in 2020, to catalyse private sector participation.
