International Volunteer Day - December 05 2023The United Nations (UN) International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development commonly known as International Volunteer Day (IVD) is annually observed across the globe on 5 December to raise awareness about volunteer service, encouraging individuals, who dedicate their time and skills to contribute their services as volunteers locally and internationally.

  • IVD encourages governments to support volunteer efforts and recognise their contributions to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at local, national, and international levels.

IVD is also marked and supported by the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme.

  • The 2023 theme of IVD centres on “The power of everyone – collective action – if everyone did”.

i.SWVR is a UN flagship publication to inform and advocate the role and contribution of volunteerism for peace and development with varying themes per edition.
