International Day of Action for Women’s Health or International Women’s Health Day is annually observed across the globe on 28th May to create awareness about the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) movement across the globe.
Aim:
To ensure the women’s health and well being across the globe, mainly in terms of their SRHR.
The theme of the International Day of Action for Women’s Health 2021 campaign is “Women’s Health Matters: Ending the Inequality Pandemic and Ensuring SRHR remains essential!”.
Background:
i.The celebration of International Day of Action for Women’s Health on 28th May was proposed by the Latin American and Caribbean Women’s Health Network (LACWHN), during the International Women’s Health Meeting in Costa Rica.
ii.The day has been commemorated on May 28 since 1987.
iii.LACWHN has been promoting and coordinating the regional actions and the Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights (WGNRR) leads the global campaign.
