The 43rd edition of the Indonesia Open, officially titled the Kapal Api Indonesia Open 2025, was a premier badminton tournament held at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta, Indonesia, from 3rd to 8th June 2025.
- Denmark’s Anders Antonsen (World No. 3) and South Korea’s An Se-young (World No. 1) secured the men’s and women’s singles titles, respectively.
About Indonesia Open 2025:
i.Indonesia Open 2025, a Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super 1000 tournament, featuring a total prize pool of USD 1,450,000.
ii.The tournament has been held annually since 1982 and is organized by the Jakarta (Indonesia)-based Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI).
iii.Since 2018, the tournament has been classified as a Super 1000 event by the Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia)-based Badminton World Federation (BWF).
- Other prestigious Super 1000 tournaments include the All England Open, China Open, and Malaysia Open.
Highlights:
i.Men’s Singles: Antonsen defeated Taiwan’s Chou Tien-chen (World No. 7) with scores of 22-20, 21-14 in a 60-minute final.
- This was Antonsen’s first Indonesia Open title after finishing as runner-up in 2019 and 2024.
- He received a prize money of USD 101,500.
ii.Women’s Singles: An Se-young overcame China’s Wang Zhiyi (World No. 2) 13-21, 21-19, 21-15 in an 81-minute thriller. She received a prize money of USD 101,500.
- With this victory, An Se-young clinched her second Indonesia Open title, having previously won the tournament in 2021.
- She claimed her fifth title of 2025, after Malaysia Open, India Open, Orléans Masters, and All England Open.
Note: An Se-young became the first South Korean to win an Olympic gold medal in women’s singles badminton at the 2024 Paris Olympics, since Bang Soo-hyun in 1996.
iii.Mixed Doubles: France’s Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue (World No. 10) made history by defeating Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh & Supissara Paewsampran (World No.6).
- This marked France’s first BWF Super 1000 title.
