Singapore Open Indian shuttler PV Sindhu clinches Women's Single title

Indian Badminton Player Pusarla Venkata (PV) Sindhu (27) grabbed the Singapore Open 2022 Super 500 trophy in Women’s Singles final after defeating China’s Wang Zhi Yi.

  • This was her first Singapore Open title, and third title of the 2022.
  • The World ranking of PV Sindhu in Women’s Singles is 7 while at the World Tour Ranking is 2.
  • This Super 500 event was organized by the Singapore Badminton Association at Singapore Indoor Stadium, Singapore, from July 12-17, 2022 with a Prize Money of USD370,000.
  • Anthony Sinisuka Ginting (Indonesia) won Men’s Singles title by defeating Kodai Naraoka (Japan).
  • Mixed doubles stars Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai completed another season-ending hat-trick of titles by retaining their World Tour Finals crown in Bali.

Key Points:

i.In 2022, PV Sindhu won Women’s singles Super 300 in Syed Modi International Badminton Championship held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh in January; and Women’s Singles in Swiss Open 2022 at St. Jakobshalle arena in Basel, Switzerland in March.

ii.Singapore Open 2022 was the 14th tournament of the 5th HSBC BWF (Badminton World Federation) World Tour from January 11, 2022 – December 18, 2022.

iii.PV Sindhu will now participate in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, starting July 28, 2022 in Birmingham, United Kingdom (UK).
