Indian Railways Launches Portal for Freight Business Development

Railways develop new portal exclusively for freight clientsOn October 1, 2020, Indian Railways (IR) launched Freight Business Development (FBD) (https://fois.indianrail.gov.in/RailSAHAY/) exclusively for freight clients. The Portal has been developed by Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS).

Indian Railways has launched the portal to maximize its revenues from freight operations.

Key Points:

i.The portal will include features like Rich Freight Calculator, Geographic Information System Mapping (GIS) based tracking of consignments, terminal dashboard, Details on Freight incentive schemes, Own-a-terminal and Own-a-Wagon scheme.

ii.The portal provides options for Customers to see distance, routes through Indian Railways Rates Branch System or Indian Railways Freight Operations Information System (FOIS) website.

iii.The Portal has been designed and developed with ‘Customer First’ policy to ensure that new freight customers get familiar with the Indian Railways Freight Business.

iv.It provides a range of information on IR Freight business.

v.Indian Railways carries over 1.2 billion tonnes of freight traffic annually in its 68000 km Rail Network.

RailMadad:

i.A Grievance redressal portal “RailMadad” has been integrated into the FBD portal.

ii.“RailMadad” will serve as a medium to lodge complaints and raise concerns.

i.On 27th August 2020, Indian Railways organised a discussion, chaired by Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Railways, to become 100% self-sustainable for all its energy needs and to contribute to the National Solar Mission of India. Indian Railways is set to meet its energy consumption which will be over 33 billion units by 2030.
