On December 18, 2020, a virtual Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Indian Navy (IN) and Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) under the administrative control of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India on sharing of ocean services, data, and expertise in the field of operational oceanography.
- The MoU was signed by Dr T.Srinivasa Kumar, Director INCOIS and Commodore AA Abhyankar, who heads Indian Navy’s Oceanology and Meteorology Directorate.
- This MoU will benefit both Indian Navy and INCOIS in future interactions and professional exchanges.
INCOIS provides information and advisory services to society, industry, government agencies and the scientific community.

i.Indian Navy (IN) hosted the 27th edition of India – Singapore Bilateral Maritime Exercise SIMBEX-20 from 23 to 25 November 2020 in Andaman Sea in a “non-contact, at sea only” format amid COVID-19. It is an annual exercise between Indian Navy and Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN).
ii.On November 12, 2020, Minister of State (MoS) for Defence, Shripad Naik virtually launched the Indian Navy’s 5th Scorpene-class Submarine ‘INS Vagir’ in Arabian sea waters at Mazagon Dock, Mumbai. Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MDSL), Mumbai has built ‘Vagir’.
