The Indian Army (IA) successfully conducted the Multilateral Annual Joint Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Exercise, ‘Sanyukt Vimochan 2024’ from 18th to 19th November 2024 at Ahmedabad and Porbandar, Gujarat.
- The exercise was organized by the Konark Corps of the Southern Command.
- The exercise demonstrated India’s disaster response readiness, fostering collaboration among domestic agencies and international participants.
Participants:
i.General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS), led this important event, which brought together from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA), India Meteorological Department (IMD), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), and the Indian Armed Forces participated.
ii.Delegates from nine Friendly Foreign Countries, including those from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Indian Ocean Region (IOR), and Southeast Asia attended the event on both days.
About Sanyukt Vimochan 2024:Â
i.The event commenced on 18th November 2024 with a Tabletop Exercise (TTX) based on the theme âCyclone in the Coastal Region of Gujaratâ.
- A simulated scenario of a cyclone impacting the Okha-Porbandar coastline allowed agencies to develop joint disaster relief strategies and address gaps in interagency coordination.
- The exercise aimed to ensure effective integration for a swift response to natural disasters.
ii.On 19 November 2024, a live demonstration at Chowpatty Beach, Porbandar, showcased the joint disaster response efforts of multiple agencies.
- Activities included: Requisitioning of Armed Forces by civil authorities, Recce and surveillance of affected areas, Execution of rescue operations and casualty evacuation using coordinated resources, Demonstrations of rehabilitation and resuscitation for disaster-affected citizens.
iii.This event demonstrated the synergy between the IA, Indian Navy (IN), Indian Air Force (IAF), Indian Coast Guard (ICG), and National Disaster Response Forces (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Forces (SDRF) in handling disaster situations.
iv.Supporting the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, an Industrial Display showcased innovations in disaster response technology developed by Indian defence industries, highlighting India’s focus on self-reliance and innovation.
Joint Military Exercise: âPoorvi Praharâ
i.IA, IN and IAF carried out a 9-day joint military exercise, âPoorvi Praharâ at Mechuka in Arunachal Pradesh (AR) from 10th to 18th November 2024, showcasing their advanced combat readiness.
ii.The exercise featured advanced military hardware, such as the M-777 Howitzer and Pracahnd helicopters, and focused on key aspects including situations and focused on:
- Intelligence gathering, surveillance, and reconnaissance.
- Rapid mobilisation and redeployment of forces.
- Operational logistics for efficient mission execution.
- Precision strikes using advanced weaponry.
iii.This extensive exercise validated the effectiveness of the joint military structures, highlighting the Armed Forces’ preparedness to address emerging challenges.
