India won the 1st ICC (International Cricket Council) Under-19 Women’s T20 (Twenty 20) World Cup 2023 by defeating England with 7 wickets.
- It was the first edition of the ICC Women’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup and it was hosted by South Africa (SA) from January 14 – 29, 2023.
- With this India became the first title holder of the ICC Women’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
- This is also India’s first World Cup win in the women’s section.
Highlights:
i.The Player of the final match title was awarded to 18-year-old Indian pacer Titas Sadhu.
- Hailing from West Bengal, she had received her first player-of-the-match award from Former Indian Cricketer Jhulan Nishit Goswami.
ii.The Player of the Tournament or Most Valuable Player (MVP) title was grabbed by England captain and stellar all-rounder Grace Scrivens.
- She took 269 runs at an average of 53.80, six wickets at an average of 7.16.
- She has achieved the highest score of 93 in the tournament.
iii.During the tournament, the most runs (297) were taken by Shweta Sehrawat of India while the most wickets (12) were grabbed by Australia’s Maggie Clark.
iv.Indian team was captained by Shafali Verma.
v.The Head Coach for this Indian team was Nooshin Al Khadeer.
vi.ICC has appointed 15 match officials for the tournament, of which 9 of them were women, making it the highest number of female match officials to be appointed for any ICC event.

The matches were held at Absa Puk Oval and Senwes Park in Potchefstroom; and Willowmoore Park in Benoni, SA.
Participation:
16 teams from different nations participated in 41 matches.
BCCI announces cash prize worth Rs 5 crore for U-19 women’s cricket team
Following the win, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has announced prize money of Rs 5 crore for the India U-19 women’s team.
