Indian Military participated in a Joint Counter Terrorism Exercise SCO PEACEFUL MISSION 2021. It is a biennial exercise organised under the aegis of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) at Orenburg in Russia from September 13 to 25, 2021.
- The 6th edition of the exercise SCO Peaceful Mission 2021 was hosted by Russia in Orenburg.
- The exercise will be conducted between SCO member states.
- India sent a team of 200 personnel comprised of an all arms combined force including 38 personnel from Indian Air Force for the exercise.
Aim of the Exercise
i.To increase global corporation to counter-terrorism.
ii.To encourage close relations between SCO members states.
iii.To enhance the abilities of the military leaders to command multi-national contingents.
iv.To share best practices between the armed forces of SCO nations.
Scope of the Exercise
i.It provides an opportunity to train in counter-terrorism operations in an urban scenario in a multinational and joint environment
ii.It includes professional interaction, mutual understanding of drills and procedures, establishment of joint command and control structures and elimination of terrorist threats

i.SCO stands for Shanghai Cooperation Organisation
ii.It was founded in Shanghai in 2001 by Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Note: India and Pakistan became permanent members in 2017 .In 2020 India did not participate in the exercise
