  • India’s 20 year old Lakshya Sen secured his maiden Super 500 title by winning the India Open 2022 against world champion Loh Kean Yew (Singapore) in the men’s singles final.

About India Open 2022:

The 2022 India Open was the 1st tournament of the 2022 Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour which was held since 1973, organized by the Badminton Association of India with sanction from BWF.

Highlights of India Open 2022:

i.Lakshya Sen, had won the bronze medal in his debut world championship in December 2021.

ii.In the Men’s doubles final, top doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won Men’s doubles against three-time world champions Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia to become the first men’s team from India to win the Yonex-Sunrise India Open 2022.

  • Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had won the Thailand Open Super 500 title in 2019 and won gold medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
  • They have also claimed the silver medal at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, besides winning the Hyderabad Open Super 100 and finishing runners-up at Syed Modi International in 2018.
  • The Indian pair also had qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 but couldn’t cross the group stage despite winning two out of three games.
