On December 21, 2020, India & Israel signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the fields of Health and Medicine, sharing expertise in building climate resilient infrastructure & support to ‘Green Healthcare’. The MoU was signed by Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabi Ashkenazi & Sanjeev Kumar Singla, India’s ambassador to Israel.
i.On November 4, 2020, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved the signing of MoU between India & Israel.
ii.The Agreement will replace the existing MoU signed between both countries in September, 2003.
Areas of Cooperation covered under the MoU:
i.Exchange & Training of medical doctors and other healthcare professionals between the two countries.
ii.Establishment of health care facilities & Assistance in development of human resources.
iii.Exchange of information between the two sides regarding the regulation of pharmaceutical, medical devices and cosmetics.
iv.Commitment to share their expertise for vulnerability assessment for health of citizens against climate risk and public health actions targeted towards mitigation & adaptation.
v.It also stated the sharing of expertise for facilitating climate resilient infrastructure & providing support for development of ‘Green Healthcare’ – Climate resilient hospitals.
vi.The agreement promotes mutual research in relevant areas & other areas of cooperation which may be mutually decided by 2 sides.
Highlights:
i.Israel emphasized on strengthening the cooperation in the sector of water management.
ii.The agreement calls for participation of representatives from both countries to discuss areas of cooperation through round tables, seminars, symposia, workshops & Conferences.
