India Hosts 12th World Para Athletics Championships 2025 in Delhi

The 12th edition of the World Para Athletics Championships (WPAC)2025, held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi, Delhi from 27th September to 5th October 2025. India became the first country in South Asia to host the prestigious championship.

Organizer: This global para-athletics event was organized by the World Para Athletics, the athletics division of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

Participation: The event witnessed participation from 100 nations, with 1,182 athletes competing across 184 events (100 men, 83 women, and 1 mixed).

Opening Ceremony: Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi inaugurated the championships, highlighting the event as a moment of national pride and praising para-athletes for breaking barriers and setting new benchmarks.

Accessibility Partner: Svayam, India’s leading accessibility organization, was appointed as the Official Accessibility Partner for WPAC 2025.

Medal Tally: Brazil has topped the medal tally with a total of 44 medals (15 Gold, 20 Silver, and 9 Bronze), while China positioned second place with 52 medals (13 Gold), and Iran as third with 15 medals (9 Gold).

  • India secured 22 medals, including 6 Gold, 9 Silver, and 7 Bronze medals, finishing 10th in the overall medal tally, and created three Championship Records and seven Asian Records during the competition
