India Dominate 2025 Taiwan Athletics Open with 16 Medals including 12 Gold

The 2025 Taiwan Athletics Open, part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze (Category C), was held at Taipei Municipal Stadium in Taipei City, Taiwan from June 07 to June 08, 2025, India dominated the event by securing 16 medals which include 12 Gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze.

  • India has outshined strong contingents from Australia and Japan who finished at 2nd and 3rd position, respectively on the final medal tally.

Note: India won 7 medals including 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 1 Bronze in the 2024 Taiwan Athletics Open.

Key Points:

i.A 34-member Indian contingent showcased a spectacular display of Indian athleticism across a variety of sports disciplines at the event.

ii.Some of the notable Indian star-performers such as Annu Rani (Javelin Throw), Rohit Yadav (Javelin Throw), Jyothi Yarraji, and Pooja (800 m) delivered record-breaking performances across track and field events.

Winners from India:

i.Two-time National Champion, Rohit Yadav clinched gold in men’s javelin throw with 74.42 meter (m).

  • Huang Shih-Feng from Taipei won silver with a 74.04 m effort, while his compatriot Cheng Chao-Tsun, the former Asian record holder and Tokyo 2020 Olympian settled for the bronze medal with 73.95 m.

ii.In women’s  javelin throw, two-time Olympian and Asian Games Champion, Anu Rani who also holds the national record of 63.82 m, won the gold with a 56.82 m best effort on her 2nd attempt.

  • At the podium, she was followed by Sri Lanka’s Hatarabage Lekamalage (56.82 m) and Taipei’s Pin-Hsun Chu (53.03 m).

iii.Indian men’s 4×400 m relay team which included  Santosh T, Vishal TK, Dharamveer Chaudhary, and Manu TS, claimed Gold medal with a championship record of 3:05.58 seconds (s).

  • While, India’s 4×400 men’s quartet of Gurvinder Singh, Animesh Kujur, Manikanta Hoblidhar and Amlan Borgohain clinched Gold, clocking 38.75 s, just 0.06s off the national record and India’s second-fastest time ever.

iv.Indian women’s 4×400 m relay team which included Shudheeksha Vadluri, Sneha Sathyanarayana Shanuvalli, Abhinaya Rajarajan and Nithya Gandhe secured Gold, clocking 44.06s.

v.Indian hurdler Jyothi Yarraji who had won gold in Asian Championships in South Korea in May 2025, continued her gold-medal winning streak as she clocked 12.99s in women’s 100 m hurdle race.

  • She won against Asuka Terada (Japan) and Chiasato Kiyoyama who had secured silver and bronze respectively.

vi.India had another podium finish in the women’s 800 m final as Pooja secured Gold by finishing over 4s ahead of the field with a meet record time 2:02.79s.

  • While, Krishan Kumar won Gold medal in men’s 800 final by clocking 1:48.46s.

vii.Vithya Ramraj and Yashas Palaksha secured Gold and Silver medal in women’s and men’s category of 400 m hurdles, respectively.
