India, Denmark Sign MoU to Increase Cooperation in Intellectual Property Rights

On September 26, 2020 India and Denmark signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the area of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) through exchange of best practices and collaborating in training programmes.

Signing of MoU:

i.The MoU was signed between the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and Danish Patent and Trademark Office, Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, Kingdom of Denmark.

ii.Guruprasad Mohapatra, Secretary of DPIIT and Freddy Svane, Ambassador of Denmark conducted the MoU signing event.

Aim:

i.The main aim of the MoU is to increase cooperation in development of automation and implementation of modernisation projects, new documentation and information systems in IP.

ii.The MoU will also include ways to protect traditional knowledge.

Key Points:

i.A Two-Year work plan will be formulated by the two sides to implement the MoU.The work plan will include cooperation activities, and scope of action.

ii.The MoU will increase IP cooperation through exchange of mutual best practices among authorities, businesses, research and educational institutions.

iii.Both sides will exchange information and best practices for disposal of applications for patents, trademarks, industrial designs and Geographical Indications and also for the protection, enforcement and usage of IP rights.
