The World Boxing Cup Brazil 2025, the first leg of the World Boxing Cup 2025 was held from 31st March to 5th April 2025 at Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, where India secured 6 medals and finished 2nd in the overall men’s medal tally.
- Uzbekistan secured the top position in the overall men’s medal tally with a total of 7 medals (5 Gold, 1 Silver, and 1 Bronze), followed by India in second place with 6 medals (1 Gold, 1 Silver, and 4 Bronze), while Brazil finished third with 5 medals (2 Gold, 2 Silver, and 1 Bronze).
About World Boxing Cup 2025:
i.The World Boxing Cup 2025 is being organised by Switzerland based – World Boxing (WB), the global governing body for Olympic-style boxing. The tournament witnessed the participation of 130 male and female boxers from 19 countries.
- India was represented by a 10-member men’s team, while the women’s team did not participate due to the ongoing 8th Elite Women National Boxing Championship in at Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh (UP).
ii.It is being held in three legs across different countries – Brazil, Kazakhstan, and India.
iii.Boxers will earn ranking points at each leg, based on which they will qualify for the season-ending World Boxing Cup Finals.
iii.The second leg will be hosted in Astana, Kazakhstan, from 30th June to 7th July 2025, while the finals will be held in India (New Delhi, Delhi) from 15th to 22nd November 2025.

India’s Medal Winners at World Boxing Cup Brazil 2025:
i.Hitesh Gulia (men’s 70 kilogram (kg) category) became the first Indian boxer to win a gold medal at the World Boxing Cup. Gulia clinched the title after his opponent, Odel Kamara from England, was injured and gave a walkover in the final.
ii.Abhinash Jamwal secured India’s only silver medal in the men’s 65kg category. He lost the final to Brazil’s Yuri Reis, the host nation’s top-ranked boxer.
iii.As per tournament rules, both losing semi-finalists were awarded Bronze medals. The following 4 Indian boxers secured Bronze medals after reaching the semi-finals: Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (50 kg), Manish Rathore (55 kg), Sachin (60 kg), and Vishal (90 kg).

i.The 14th edition of the International Boxing Association (IBA) Women’s World Boxing Championships 2025, held in Serbia, was topped by Russia, which secured 4 Gold medals.
ii.The inaugural edition of the World Boxing Championships 2025 for Elite men and women will be held in England, United Kingdom (UK) in September 2025.
iii.India will host the 3rd World Boxing Congress in November 2025Â in New Delhi.
