India has been designated as ‘Vice-Chair’ of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Working Group of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
India has been designated as ‘Vice-Chair’ of the GLP Working Group of the OECD, to recognise the contributions of the Indian GLP Programme.
OECD also appointed Dr. Ekta Kapoor, Scientist ‘E’, National GLP Compliance Monitoring Authority (NGCMA), Department of Science & Technology (DST) as Vice-Chair of OECD Working Group on GLP for 2021 and 2022.
Key Points:
i.GLP is a quality system evolved by OECD to ensure safety data generated on chemicals like industrial chemicals, pharmaceuticals (Human and Veterinary), agrochemicals, cosmetic products, food/feed additives, medical devices which can be relied upon by regulatory authorities.
ii.Through the studies and data, the non-hazardous nature of chemical needs will be established by the regulators.
National GLP Compliance Monitoring Authority (NGCMA):
i.DST established NGCMA with the approval of the Union Cabinet on April 24, 2002.
ii.NGCMA grants GLP certification to test facilities (TFs) for conducting safety studies on new chemicals. The tests will be conducted according to OECD Principles of GLP and OECD Council norms.
