On 4th September 2020, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT-R)and National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) to collaborate in the areas like universal design principles and inclusive development of the Building Accessible Safe Inclusive Indian Cities (BASIIC) programme of NIUA.
Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director of IIT-R and Hitesh Vaidya, Director of NIUA signed and exchanged the MoU.

Nanda Kishore, program Head & Coordinator of NIUA along with other dignitaries witness the exchange of MoU.
Role of NIUA:
To identify thrust areas of the BASIIC programme and to provide the knowledge, expertise and guidance in policy research and development.
Role of IIT Roorkee:
IIT-R will coordinate with relevant government bodies and urban local bodies of the cities.
Features of MoU:
i.This eases the collaboration of IIT-R and NIUA in field policy research, technical support, knowledge creation and dissemination and in initiatives like research, capacity development and others.
ii.This MoU leverages the technical capacities of both the institutions and results in creating and sharing knowledge and resources to make more safe and accessible Indian cities that are more inclusive for people with disabilities, elderly, women, children and others.
