Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) has introduced the world’s first Nano Urea Liquid for farmers during its 50th annual general body virtual meeting. The production of Nano Urea Liquid will commence by June 2021.
- The nano urea fluid was developed to replace conventional urea and that ureas demand could be reduced by at least 50%.
- Scientists have developed indigenous Nano Urea Liquid at Nano Biotechnology Research Centre, Kalol, Gujarat in line with ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Krishi’.
- Nano urea has been added to the government’s Fertilizer Control Order after conducting field tests on 43 crops under National Agriculture Research System (NARS), 20 ICAR research institutes, State Agriculture Universities, and Krishi Vighyana Kendras.
Advantages of Nano Urea Liquid:-
i.Nano Urea Liquid will be efficient for plant nutrition which increases the production with improved nutritional quality.
ii.It will create a positive effect on the quality of underground water, very significant reduction in global warming with an impact on climate change and sustainable development.
iii.Nano Urea Liquid used by farmers will boost balanced nutrition program by reducing the excessive use of urea application in the soil and will make the crops stronger, healthier and protect them from lodging effect.
Disadvantages of using existing Urea:-
i.Urea (carbamide), readily produced from ammonia and carbon dioxide, is a very important chemical in the agricultural and polymer industries.
ii. Excess urea causes environmental pollution, harms soil health, and makes plants more susceptible to disease and pest infestation, resulting in delayed maturation and loss of productivity of the crop.
