DMart’s Radhakishan Damani tops Self-made Entrepreneurs of the Millennia 2023Radhakishan Shivkishan Damani, the founder of Avenue Supermarts Limited (DMart) topped the first edition of ‘India’s Top 200 Self-made Entrepreneurs of the Millennia 2023’ released by First Private (Private Banking by IDFC First Bank Limited) and Hurun India, with the value of Rs.2.38 lakh crore.

  • He is followed by Binny Bansal and Sachin Bansal (founders of Flipkart India Private Limited) with an equity value of Rs. 1.19 lakh crore.
  • Deepinder Goyal, the founder of Zomato Media Private Limited, is ranked third with a net worth of Rs 86,835 crore.

About the List:

i.It is a list of the 200 most valuable companies in India founded after the millennium (year 2000).

ii.It demonstrates the vibrancy of Indian entrepreneurship across age groups, gender, and geography.

iii.It is comprised of 405 founders who are Self-made Entrepreneurs and propelling India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem to new heights.

iv.The list is based on the market capitalization of listed companies and valuations for non-listed companies.

v.The cut-off date for the list was September 30, 2023.

Key Points:

i.The cumulative value of all companies in the list is Rs 30 lakh crore.

  • This value is equivalent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Denmark.

ii.34% of the companies in the list have global operations.

iii.Financial services and Retail led the way with 46 and 30 companies in the list.

  • This is followed by Healthcare with 26 entrants.

iv.Only one-fourth of the companies featured in the list have been listed and traded in the stock exchanges.

Age:

i.The average age of entrepreneurs featured in the list is 44.

ii.Kaivalya Vohra(21) of Zepto is the youngest entrepreneur to feature in the list.

  • He is followed by Shashvat Nakrani (25) of Bharatpe and Dilsher Malhi (27) of Zupee.

iii.Ashok Soota (80) of Happiest Minds is the oldest on the list.

Women in the list:

i.The list also recognized 20 women entrepreneurs.

ii.Ghazal Alagh(35) of Mamaearth and Saumya Singh Rathore(35) of Winzo are the youngest women on the list of women entrepreneurs.

ii.As per the list, Falguni Nayar of Nykaa is the top women entrepreneur.

Geographical Distribution:

i.The successful entrepreneur came from 23 cities across India

ii.Top 3 cities accounts for over half of India’s top entrepreneurs. They are:

  • Bengaluru (Karnataka) – 129
  • Mumbai (Maharashtra) – 78
  • Gurugram (Haryana) & New Delhi (Delhi) – 49
