ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final India beats New Zealand by four wicketsOn March 9, 2025, India won the 9th Edition of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy title by defeating New Zealand with 4 wickets in the final held at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). This victory marks India’s 3rd win in the history of the tournament, having previously won in 2002 and 2013.

  • India successfully chased the target of 252 runs, scoring 254/6 in 49 overs. Rohit Sharma, the captain top-scored with 76 runs, and Shreyas Iyer added 48 runs to the total.
  • New Zealand posted a total of 251/7 in their 50 overs. Daryl Mitchell contributed 63 runs, while Michael Bracewell remained not out on 53 runs.

Note: Since 2023 India won 23 matches out of  24 played across the last 3 Men’s ICC events .

Highlights:

i.Rachin Ravindra (New Zealand) emerged as a standout performer in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, earning both the ‘Golden Bat’ and ‘Player of the Tournament’ honors for his exceptional all-round contributions.

ii.Ravindra Jadeja (India) earned the ‘Fielder of the Match’ award for his exceptional fielding in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

iii.Virat Kohli became the fastest player to reach 14,000 One-Day International (ODI) runs in just 287 innings.  He achieved this in the Champions Trophy 2025 match against Pakistan.

  • This remarkable feat also placed him alongside cricket legends like India’s Sachin Tendulkar (18,246 runs) and Sri Lankas’s Kumar Sangakkara (14,234 runs) as the only players to surpass the 14,000-run mark in ODIs.

iv.Rohit Sharma, who led India to two ICC titles, became the 2nd-fastest player to reach 11,000 ODI runs, in his 261st innings during the Champions Trophy match against Bangladesh, behind Virat Kohli.

  • He was named ‘Player of the Match’ in the finals against New Zealand for his excellent contribution with the bat.

v.Mohammed Shami (India) became the fastest Indian bowler to reach 200 ODI wickets in 104 match by surpassing Former Indian Cricketer Ajit Agarkar’s record of 133 matches., He Achieved this feat in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match against Bangladesh.

vi.Afghanistan’s batsmen Ibrahim Zadran scored 177 against England was the highest individual score in the history of the Champions Trophy.

About ICC Champions Trophy 2025:

i.The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy was held from February 19 to March 9, 2025. Pakistan served as the primary host, with matches also played in Dubai, UAE.

ii.The tournament featured the top 8 Men’s National Teams, including Afghanistan (debut appearance), Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and South Africa.

iii.Shikhar Dhawan, India’s highest run-scorer in Champions Trophy history with 701 runs across two editions, has been appointed as one of the four Event Ambassadors for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, alongside former Pakistani cricketer Sarfaraz Ahmed, an Australian all-rounder, Shane Watson, and New Zealand cricketer, Tim Southee

iv.Sponsors: JioStar, the official broadcaster of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, secured 11 sponsors, including Dream11, Pernod Ricard India, Beam Suntory, Kohler, Birla Opus, Vodafone Idea, ICICI Direct, McEnroe, Eicher Motors, Indiran IVF, and LIC Housing Finance.

Prize Money

i.The Indian cricket team, known as the Men in Blue, secured the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title, earning a prize of USD 2.24 million (approximately Rs.17.5 crore).

ii.New Zealand, as the runners-up, received USD 1.12 million (approximately Rs.8.75 crore) while the semi-finalists, losers Australia and South Africa, received USD 560,000 each (approximately Rs.4.88 crore).

iii.Each of the eight teams participated in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 received a base participation prize of USD 125,000.
