Hurun Global Rich List 2025: Elon Musk topped; Mukesh Ambani emerges as India’s Richest Person

In March 2025, China based Hurun Research Institute released the “2025 Hurun Global Rich List“, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman & Managing Director(CMD) of Reliance Industries Limited(RIL), emerged as the India’s Richest Person with a total net worth of USD 100 billion and ranked as the World’s 17th richest Person (10th in 2024).

• Mukesh Ambani is followed by Chairman of the Adani Group, Gautam Adani with a total net worth of USD 97 billion and Chairperson of HCL Technologies Limited Roshni Nadar Malhotra with a total net worth of USD 40 billion. She also became the 5th richest woman in the world. She is also the first Indian woman to enter the global top 10 wealthiest women.
• Elon Musk, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tesla and SpaceX reclaim the title of the world’s richest person for the fourth time with total net worth of USD 420 billion, followed by founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos (USD 266 billion, CEO of Meta (formerly Facebook) Mark Zuckerberg at (USD 242 billion), co-founder of Oracle, Larry Ellison (USD 203 billion).

About Hurun Global Rich List 2025:

i.This is the 14th edition of Hurun Global Rich List. The rankings are based on wealth calculations as of January 15, 2025.

ii.The Hurun Global Rich List 2025 featured 3,442 billionaires from 71 countries, an increase from 3,278 last year. The number of billionaires grew by 5%, while their total combined wealth rose by 13%.

Highlights of Global Rich List 2025:

i.The exclusive ‘Ten Zero Club,’ representing those with over USD 10 billion, is now approaching 300 members, and the ‘Eleven Zero Club,’ comprising individuals with over USD100 billion, has expanded from zero in 2017 to 17.

ii.Others in the top 10 global list are Google co-founder Larry Page with a net worth of USD 164 billion, French billionaire Bernard Arnault with USD 157 billion, Microsoft’s former CEO Steve Ballmer with USD 156 billion, Sergey Brin with USD 148 billion, and Bill Gates with USD 143 billion.

iii.This year’s Hurun billionaires list includes 4 singers, 6 sports figures, and 1 influencer. The singers are Jay-Z (the United States of America, USA), Rihanna (Barbados), Taylor Swift (USA), and Paul McCartney (the United Kingdom, UK). The sportsmen are Michael Jordan (USA), Tiger Woods (USA), Floyd Mayweather (USA), LeBron James (USA), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), and Lionel Messi (Argentina). The influencer is Kim Kardashian (USA).

Top five billionaires in the list:

Note: The top 10 billionaires collectively gained USD 512 billion in wealth over the past year. This accounts for 30% of all new wealth generated and represents 12% of the total wealth held by the billionaires on the list.

Top 5 Women billionaires in the list:

i.A total of 561 women are featured on the Hurun Global Rich List, with 224 being self-made.

ii.The top 10 wealthiest women in the world have a combined net worth of USD 479 billion, representing 20% of the total wealth held by women.

Top 5 countries in the list:

i.A total of 387 new billionaires joined the list this year.

ii.For the first time since 2016, the USA has topped the list with the most billionaires (870).

iii.China follows in second place with 823 billionaires and India with 284 billionaires.

New York Becomes the World’s Billionaire Capital:

i.New York has reclaimed its position as the global billionaire capital, while London ranks second.

ii.Meanwhile, Shanghai has become the Asian billionaire capital for the first time , surpassed Mumbai as Asia’s billionaire capital. Shanghai is now home to 92 billionaires, while Mumbai has 90.

i.India is home to 284 billionaires, up by 13 from last year.

ii.Mukesh Ambani has once again become Asia’s richest person, with a net worth of USD 100 bn.
