On October 24, 2023, India‘s first Nano Di-Ammonia Phosphate (DAP–Liquid) plant was inaugurated by the Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) at Kalol in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
- It was set up by Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) at a cost of Rs 300 crore.
- The development of plant is on the lines of Aatmnirbhar Bharat vision of Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi.
Note: This is the second IFFCO plant in Gujarat. In May 2022, PM inaugurated IFFCO’s world’s first Nano Urea Liquid in Kalol.
Key Points:
i.The plant will produce 42 lakh bottles of green technology Nano DAP.
ii.Each bottle replaces 50 kg bag of traditional DAP for farmers.
- The plant will produce 5 crore bottles of Nano dap liquid equivalent to 25 tons of DAP.
iii.Nano DAP priced at Rs 600 per 500 ml, while traditional DAP bag costs around Rs 1300.
iv.With this, there will be significant reduction in DAP imports and lowered logistics costs expected.
What is Nano DAP?
It is a liquid fertilizer that contains nanoparticles of DAP. It’s a product of nanotechnology developed by the IFFCO. It is a source of nitrogen and phosphorus, which are essential nutrients for crop growth.
- It contains 8% nitrogen and 16% phosphorus, compared to 18% nitrogen and 46% phosphorus in conventional granular bags
Other Inaugurations:
The Union Minister also attended an event in Sanand where he launched various developmental projects worth Rs 289 crore.
i.These projects included the Sanand Industries Association’s mini Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and fire station, and Hydrogen Electrolyzer Manufacturing factory
ii.He also laid the foundation stone of the sports complex at SD Arts and BR Commerce College at the cost of Rs 13 crore.
