Hockey India wins Etienne Glichitch Award (1)Hockey India won the Etienne Glichitch Award in recognition of Hockey India’s contribution towards the growth and development of Hockey.

Various individuals, teams and organisations received the Fédération Internationale de Hockey(FIH) Honorary Awards at the virtual conference organised by the FIH as a part of its 47th Congress.

Note:

Indian Hockey Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh was appointed as a member of the FIH Athletes Committee during the virtual meeting of the Executive board. 

Along with PR Sreejesh, Marlena Rybacha (Poland), Mohamed Mea(South Africa) and Matt swann (Australia) were appointed as members of the Athletes’ Committee.

About Etienne Glichitch Award:

i.The Award is given every two years by the Executive Board on the recommendation of the Awards Panel.

ii.The award is presented once every two years in conjunction with the Ordinary Congress.

iii.The award is named after Etienne Glichitch who served as the Hon. Secretary of FIH from 1966 until 1984 and served the President of FIH till 1996.

iv.The award carries a medal and Certificate.

His Majesty Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah, the current King of Malaysia, was named as an Honorary Member of FIH for his efforts towards the development of hockey.

  • Yokoyama Hide, the Vice President of Asian Hockey Federation and Chairman of the Development & Engagement Committee
  • Peter Elders, EHF and KNHB Executive Board Member and Chair of the EHF Development Committee;
  • Richard Kofi Akpokavie, FIH Technical Official, Chairman of the African Hockey Federation Officials Committee and Member of the FIH Officials Committee,
  • Dr Robin Mitchell, Foundation member of Oceania Hockey Federation, former President of Fiji Hockey Association and Acting President of ANOC.
  • England striker Sam Ward, received the Super Fair Play Trophy René G Frank.

Diploma of Merit award:

  • Mathavan Devadas, President of the Singapore Hockey Federation;
  • Shin Jung Hee, Vice President of both the Asian Hockey Federation and Korean Hockey Association
  • Sarah Bennett, African Hockey Federation Executive Board Member and Chair of the AfHF Development Committee.
