On July 13, 2024, Narendra Modi, Prime Minister (PM) of India, visited Mumbai, Maharashtra laid the foundation stone and dedicates to nation multiple projects related to the road, railways and ports sector worth more than Rs 29,400 crores.
- The projects were initiated during the event held in NESCO Exhibition Centre in Goregaon, Maharashtra.
Details of the Development projects:
i.PM Modi laid the foundation stones for two major infrastructure projects: Rs 16,600 crore Thane-Borivali Twin Tunnel Project and Rs 6,300 crore Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project.
- The 11.8 km Thane-Borivali Tunnel connecting Borivali in Mumbai, and Ghodbunder Road in Thane will cut the Thane-Borivali journey by 12 km and save about an hour. This will pass beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP).
- The 6.65 km GMLR will connect the Western Express Highway at Goregaon with the Eastern Express Highway at Mulund, linking the Western suburbs to the new Navi Mumbai airport and Pune-Mumbai Expressway.
ii.PM laid the foundation for the Kalyan Yard Remodelling and Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal in Turbhe, Navi Mumbai.
- The Kalyan Yard upgrade will enhance traffic management, train handling capacity, and reduce congestion.
- The new Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal, spanning over 32,600 square meters, will create local jobs and serve as an additional hub for cement and other commodities.
iii.PM also dedicated New Platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and the extended Platforms No. 10 & 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station to the nation.
- The extensions at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus accommodate longer trains, boosting capacity, while Platforms No. 10 & 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, extended by 382 meters with cover sheds and washable aprons, now support trains up to 24 coaches.
Launch of Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana:
PM launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana: Internship Scheme for Unemployed Youth’ with an outlay of Rs 5,600 crore to offer skill enhancement and industry exposure internship for unemployed youth of Maharashtra aged 18 to 30.
- It will be implemented by Maharashtra’s Department of Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship & Innovation along with Mukhyamantri Jan Kalyan Kaksh.
- Eligibility: The applicant must be a Maharashtra native with at least a 12th pass, ITI/Diploma, Graduation, or Post Graduation.
Aim: To boost young individuals’ employability and skills through practical training with entrepreneurs, preparing them for a competitive job market
Key Points:
i.Internships will last for 6 months.
ii.Interns will receive a monthly stipend paid through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
iii.The stipend amounts are Rs 6,000 for 12th pass, Rs 8,000 for ITI/Diploma holders, and Rs 10,000 for those with a Degree/Post Graduation.
iv.The program is open to both government and private sector industries.

PM Modi Inaugurates INS Towers in Mumbai
PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) Towers at the INS Secretariat in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai. The new building will serve as a central hub for Mumbai’s print media.
- The PM urged publishers to promote interstate tourism, translate publications into UN-recognized languages, use social media for global outreach, and expand digital editions.
Participants: Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais, Chief Minister (CM) Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, and INS President Rakesh Sharma.
