8 AMRUT Projects Worth Around Rs. 2,000 Crores in Solapur, Maharashtra

During the visit to Maharashtra, the PM laid the foundation stone of 8 AMRUT(Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) projects worth around Rs. 2000 crore. He also

  • Dedicated more than 90000 houses completed under PMAY-Urban
  • Dedicated 15000 houses of Raynagar Housing Society in Solapur, which included handloom workers, vendors, power loom workers, rag pickers, bidi workers, and drivers as Beneficiaries
  • Started the distribution of 1st and 2nd instalments to 10000 beneficiaries of PM-SVANIDHI in Maharastra

Inauguration of Largest Aerospace Engineering Facility of Boeing Outside the United States in Bengaluru

i.PM inaugurated the new State-of-the-art Boeing India Engineering & Technology Centre (BIETC) campus in Bengaluru, Karnataka with an investment of Rs. 1600 crore on 43-acre of land.

  • It will foster partnerships with vibrant startup, private, and government ecosystems in India
  • And will help in developing next-generation products and services for the global aerospace and defense industry

ii.PM also launched the Boeing Sukanya Program which aims to support the entry of more girl children from across India into the country’s aviation sector

  • The program will create STEM(science, technology, engineering and maths) Labs at 150 planned locations to help spark interest in STEM careers for young girls
  • And will provide scholarships to women who are training to be pilots

Opening Ceremony of Khelo India Youth Games 2023 in Chennai

PM Modi was the Chief Guest for the opening ceremony of the 6th Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2023 held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This is the first time that Khelo India Youth Games are being held in South India.

  • The KIYG will be held in Four cities in Tamil Nadu- Chennai, Madurai, Trichy, and Coimbatore from 19th  to 31st  January 2024.
  • Mascot for the games is Veera Mangai inspired by Rani Velu Nachiyar who waged a war against British colonial rule
  • The logo for the games incorporates the figure of poet Thiruvalluvar.
  • Over 5600 athletes will be participating in this edition of Khelo India Youth Games, in 15 venues with 26 sporting disciplines, over 275 competitive events, and 1 demo sport.
  • Silambam, a traditional sport of Tamil Nadu, is being introduced as a demo sport for the first time in the history of the Khelo India Youth Games.
  • The 26 games include conventional sports such as Football, Volleyball, Badminton, etc., and traditional sports such as Kalaripayattu, Gatka, Thang ta, Kabaddi, and Yogasana

Launch of a Revamped Version of the Doordarshan Channel DD Podhigai as ‘DD Tamil’

During the inaugural ceremony of KIYG 2023, the PM also launched and laid the foundation stone of projects related to the Broadcasting sector worth Rs 250 Crore.

  • This included the launch of the Revamped DD Podhigai channel as DD Tamil
  • 12 Akashvani FM projects in 8 States
  • 4 DD transmitters in Jammu and Kashmir
  • In addition to this, The PM will lay the foundation stone for 26 new FM transmitter projects in 12 states

Note: DD Podhigai is the first Doordarshan Television to launch its HD version in India. It was established on 15 August 1975

PM Visit to Andhra Pradesh and Kerala on 16th-17th January 2024

The PM Visited Andhra Pradesh and Kerala on 16th-17th January 2024. During his visit to the state he also inaugurated few projects which are:

i.Infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 4,000 crores in Kochi, Kerala

ii.New campus of National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes & Narcotics at Palasamudram, Andhra Pradesh

Infrastructure Projects Worth More than ₹4,000 Crores in Kochi, Kerala

PM inaugurated projects worth more than Rs 4000 crore in line with the Prime Minister’s vision to transform India’s ports, shipping, and waterways sector, and build capacity and self-sufficiency in it.  The projects include

i.New Dry Dock(NDD) at Cochin Shipyard Limited(CSL)

The project is built for Rs 1800 crore at the existing premises of Cochin Shipyard Limited and it is the largest marine infrastructure in the South Asia

  • Its length is 310 meters, width is 75/60 meters and depth of 13 meters
  • It has a draught (it indicates how deep the ship is in the water) of up to 9.5 meters
  • It can handle Strategic Assets like future aircraft carriers up to 70000MT displacement and large commercial vessels

ii.International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF) of CSL

The ISRF is built for Rs 970 Crores which will improve the existing ship repair capabilities of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) to transform it into a global ship repair hub. ISRF has

  • Ship Lift system with a capacity of 6000 T
  • Transfer System
  • 6 Workstations
  • And a berth of approximately 1400 meters which can accommodate 7 vessels of 130-meter length simultaneously

iii.LPG import Terminal of Indian Oil Corporation Limited at Puthuvypeen, Kochi

The LPG(Liquefied Petroleum Gas) Terminal of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) is built for Rs. 1236 crore to strengthen India’s efforts towards ensuring accessible & affordable energy for all

  • It has 15400 MT of storage capacity

New Campus of National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes & Narcotics at Palasamudram, Andhra Pradesh

i.PM inaugurated the new State-of-Art campus of the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN) at Palasamudram, Sri Sathya Sai District, Andhra Pradesh to improve governance through Civil Service Capacity Building.

  • It is spread across 500 acres
  • This is a National-level world-class training institute to impart training to the officials of the Indian Revenue Service (Custom & Indirect Taxes) as well as to the central allied services, state governments & partner nations
  • The campus will use technologies such as Augmented & Virtual Reality, Blockchain as well as Artificial Intelligence, and other emerging Technologies for training and capacity-building

ii.He also released a book titled ‘Flora of Palasamudra

  • Palasamudram village is located in Palasamudram mandal of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh, India

Note: The academy was sanctioned for the State in 2014 as part of the provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act. The then Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley laid the foundation stone for the academy on April 11, 2015. The new campus of NACIN is the second one in the country
