PM visit to Maharashtra and Karnataka - 19 Jan 2023On January 19, 2023, the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi visited Karnataka and Maharashtra the details of which are given below:

PM’s visit to Karnataka:

In Karnataka, PM visited the districts Yadgiri and Kalaburagi.

Yadgiri:

In Kodekal of Yadgiri District, PM laid the foundation stones and inaugurated various developmental projects related to irrigation, drinking water and a National Highway (NH) development project.

i.Foundation stone of Yadgir multi-village drinking water supply scheme was laid under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM)

  • With an outlay of more than Rs 2050 crore, it envisages providing potable water to about 2.3 lakh households of more than 700 rural habitations and three towns in the Yadgiri district.
  • Under this, a Water Treatment Plant of 117 MLD (Megaliters Per Day) will be built.

ii.Inauguration of Narayanpur Left Bank Canal – Extension Renovation and Modernization Project (NLBC – ERM).

  • The project costs about Rs 4700 crores, will have a canal carrying a capacity of 10,000 cusecs, and can irrigate 4.5 lac hectares of command area.
  • It will benefit more than three lakh farmers in 560 villages of Kalaburgi, Yadagir and Vijaypur districts.

iii.Foundation stone laid for the 65.5 km section of NH-150C

  • It is a 6 lane Greenfield road project, a part of the Surat – Chennai Expressway. It is being built at a cost of more than Rs 2100 crore.
  • Surat – Chennai Expressway will pass through six states- Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu and reduces the existing route from 1600 Kms to 1270 Kms.

Kalaburagi

In Malkhed of Kalaburagi District, the PM distributed title deeds (hakku patra) to the eligible beneficiaries of newly declared revenue villages.

What are title deeds?

These are issued to beneficiaries, who are largely from the marginalized and vulnerable communities from the SC (Scheduled Caste), ST (Schedule Tribe) and OBC (Other Backward Class). It provides a formal recognition from the government for their land, and will make them eligible for receiving government services like drinking water, electricity, roads etc.

  • About 1475 unrecorded habitations have been declared as New Revenue villages in five districts of Kalaburagi, Yadgiri, Raichur, Bidar and Vijayapura of Karnataka.

PM’s visit to Maharashtra:

PM inaugurated, dedicated and laid the foundation stone of multiple development initiatives worth around Rs 38,800 crores in Mumbai.

i.Dedicated to the nation Mumbai Metro Rail Lines 2A & 7

  • Mumbai Metro Rail Lines 2A & 7 cost around Rs 12,600 crores.
  • The metro line 2A connecting Dahisar E and DN Nagar (yellow line) is around 18.6 Km long, while metro line 7 connecting Andheri E – Dahisar E (red line) is around 16.5 Km long.
  • The foundation stone of these lines was also laid by the PM in 2015.

ii.Launch of MUMBAI 1 Mobile App and National Common Mobility Card (Mumbai 1)

  • The app will facilitate ease of travel, can be shown on the entry gates of Metro Stations and supports digital payment to buy tickets through UPI (Unified Payments Interface).
  • The National Common Mobility Card (Mumbai 1) will initially be used in metro corridors and can be extended to other modes of mass public transit including local trains and buses as well to enable quick, contactless, and digital transactions.

iii.Foundation stone laid for seven sewage treatment plants

  • It will be built at a cost of around Rs 17,200 crores.
  • These sewage treatment plants will be set up in Malad, Bhandup, Versova, Ghatkopar, Bandra, Dharavi and Worli.
  • They will have a combined capacity of around 2,460 MLD.

iv.Inauguration of 20 Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Aapla Dawakhana

  • It will strengthen health care infrastructure in Mumbai by providing essential medical services like health checkups, medicines, investigations and diagnostics completely free, to the people.

v.Foundation stone laid for the redevelopment of three hospitals in Mumbai viz. 360-bedded Bhandup Multispeciality Municipal Hospital, 306-bedded Siddharth Nagar Hospital, Goregaon (West) and 152-bedded Oshiwara Maternity Home.

vi.Inauguration of road concretization project for around 400 Km roads of Mumbai

  • This project will be developed at a cost of about Rs 6,100 crore.
  • Of the total roads extending to around 2050 Km in Mumbai, more than 1200 Km of roads are either concretized or are in the process of being concretized. However, the remaining roads of about 850 Km in length face challenges of potholes. This project will overcome this challenge.

vii.Foundation stone for redevelopment of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus laid

  • With an outlay of over Rs 1,800 crores, the redevelopment envisages decongesting the southern heritage node of the terminus, augmentation of facilities, better multi-modal integration and to conserve the world famous iconic structure. The project will be done at a cost of over Rs. 1,800 crores.

viii.The transfer of approved loans of over one lakh beneficiaries under PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) were also started by the PM.
