On 12th July 2022, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi visited the Deoghar District in Jharkhand and launched several developmental projects worth around Rs 16,800 crores. Later he also visited Patna, the capital of Bihar on the same day (12th July) and addressed the closing ceremony of the Centenary celebrations of the Bihar Legislative Assembly(100 years of Bihar Vidhan Sabha).

PM’s Visit to Deoghar, Jharkhand: 

During his visit to Jharkhand on 12th July 2022, PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several developmental projects worth more than Rs 16,800 crores in the Deoghar district of Jharkhand. These projects will provide a huge momentum to the modern connectivity, energy, health, faith and tourism in Jharkhand.

  • He also performed pooja at Baba Baidyanath Dham at Deoghar, Jharkhand.
  • Development of Baidyanath Dham, Deoghar” sanctioned under the PRASAD Scheme(Pilgrimage Rejuvenation And Spiritual Augmentation Drive’) of the Ministry of Tourism will get inaugurated. The projects being inaugurated by the Prime Minister include development of two large pilgrimage congregation halls with a capacity of 2000 pilgrims each.

Key People:

Ramesh Bais, Governor of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, Chief Minister (CM) of Jharkhand, and Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister, Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) were present during the event.

Inauguration of Deoghar Airport:

i.PM inaugurated the Deoghar Airport, a vital development to provide direct connectivity to Baba Baidyanath Dham, an important religious destination for devotees from all over India.

ii.The airport has been constructed at an estimated cost of ~ Rs 400 crore.

iii.The airport is equipped to handle around 5 lakh passengers annually.

Road projects:

i.He also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several road projects worth around Rs. 10,000 crores.

ii.The inaugurated projects include, 6-laning of Gorhar to Barwada section of National Highway(NH)-2; widening of Rajganj – Chas up to West Bengal border section of NH-32 among others.

iii.He also laid the foundation stone of several major projects such as 4-laning of Mirzachowki- Farakka section of NH-80; 4-laning of Hariharganj to Parwa More section of NH-98; 4-laning of Palma to Gumla section of NH-23; Elevated corridor of Kutchery Chowk to Piska More section of NH-75 and others.

iv.These projects will boost the connectivity in the region and ensure ease of movement for the general public.

Energy Infrastructure projects: 

i.PM also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of energy infrastructure projects worth Rs 3000 crore for this region.

ii.The inaugurated projects include the Bokaro – Angul section of Jagdishpur-Haldia-Bokaro-Dhamra pipeline of GAIL (India) Limited (formerly known as Gas Authority of India Limited); New LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) Bottling plant of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) at Barhi subdivision of Hazaribagh district in Jharkhand, and Bokaro LPG Bottling plant of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).

iii.The foundation stone of Parbatpur Gas Collecting Station, Jharia Block, Coal Bed Methane (CBM) Asset of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation(ONGC) were also laid during his visit.

Railway Projects:

i.He also dedicated 2 Railway projects to India: Godda – Hansdiha Electrified Section and Garhwa-Mahuria Doubling project.

ii.These 2 projects will offer seamless traffic movement of goods for industries and powerhouses.

iii.They will also ensure the ease of train movement from Dumka to Asansol.

iv.He also laid the foundation stone of 3 Railway projects:

  • Redevelopment of Ranchi railway station;
  • Jasidih Bypass Line
  • LHB Coach Maintenance Depot, Godda.

Note: The Ranchi station redevelopment project will have world-class passenger amenities including a Food Court, Executive Lounge, Cafeteria, Air-Conditioned Waiting Halls and other facilities for ensuring ease of movement as well as the comfort of the passengers.

In-Patient Department and Operation Theatre at AIIMS Jharkhand:

PM Modi inaugurated the new In-Patient Department and Operation Theatre at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Deoghar (Jharkhand).

About AIIMS Deoghar

i.AIIMS Deoghar was established on 25th May 2018 and the foundation was laid by PM Modi.

ii.AIIMS Deoghar is one of the Apex healthcare institutes being established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).

iii.PMSSY planned to set up new AIIMS institutions in underserved areas in India to correct regional imbalances in quality tertiary level healthcare in India and in attaining self-sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education and training.

Note: 

  • As of 2014, there were only 7 branches of AIIMS in India, since then, the launch of 16 AIIMS has been approved and MBBS Classes and OPD services have started in around 10 of the newly launched AIIMS.
  • Being executed under PMSSY schemes, the construction work is being done by New Delhi based NKG Infrastructure Ltd under the guidance of NBCC.

Highlights of PM’s Visit to Patna, Bihar: 

During his visit to Bihar on 12th July 2022, PM Modi addressed the closing ceremony of the Centenary (100 years) celebrations of the Bihar Legislative Assembly (Bihar Vidhan Sabha) held in Patna, Bihar.

PM Modi has become the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the Bihar Vidhan Sabha Complex.

Phagu Chauhan, Governor of Bihar, and Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister (CM) of Bihar present on the occasion.

Highlights: 

i.He laid the foundation stone of the Vidhan Sabha museum, which will feature several galleries demonstrating the history of democracy in Bihar and the evolution of the current civic structure

ii.PM Modi also unveiled a 40-feet high “Shatabdi Smriti Stambh (centenary column)” at the Bihar Legislative Assembly complex. Its foundation was laid by President Ram Nath Kovind during his visit to the state in October 2021, to address the lawmakers as part of the centenary celebrations.

  • The column, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore, features a Bodhi Tree (symbol of Bihar) on top of the column made of bronze.
  • The image in the main copy of the Indian constitution is featured on the lower panel of the Stambha.

About Bihar Vidhan Sabha:

Bihar Vidhan Sabha building turned 100 years old on 7th February 2021. The building was formally inaugurated on 7th February 1921 by Lord Satyendra Prasanna Sinha, the first governor of the erstwhile Bihar and Orissa Province.

The date also marks the first session of the Bihar and Orissa Provincial Legislative Council.
