- Indian passport holders can travel visa-free to 59 countries, including Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Macao, the Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Kenya, Mauritius, Seychelles, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Iran, and Qatar.
- However, visa-on-arrival will be needed for some countries.
The index is based on exclusive data provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Henley Passport Index 2023
i.The index includes 199 passports and 227 travel destinations, providing users with the most comprehensive and reliable information about their global access and mobility.
ii.Each passport is graded based on the number of visa-free destinations to which the holder has access.
iii.According to the Henley Passport power scores, only 6% of countries in the world have access to more than 70% of the world’s economy.
iv.According to the Index, only 17% of countries allow visa-free travel to more than 4/5th of the world’s 227 destinations.
Top Positions
i.According to the report, Japan’s passport remains the most powerful in the world.
- Japanese citizens are eligible for visa-on-arrival or visa-free travel to up to 193 countries.
ii.Singapore and South Korea share the second spot, providing visa-free entry to 192 countries.
iii.In terms of the least powerful passport, Afghanistan’s passport ranks 109th, as the world’s worst passport with a visa-free score of 27.
iv.The visa-free score for Iraq is 29, giving it the second-worst passport ranking at 108.
v.Syria is ranked 107th, with a visa-free score of 30.
vi.With a visa-free score of 32, Pakistan ranks 106th on the list of the world’s worst passports to hold.
vii.Yemen ranks 105th, with a score of 34 for visa-free travel.
