In May 2021, Haryana Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya gave approval to the “The Haryana Recovery of Damages to Property Act”. This act will enable the state government to recover money from the protestors who cause damage to the State’s Public & Private properties.
i.Any damage done to any private property, buses and other public properties during any social agitation will be recovered from the protestors itself.
ii.This move is taken by the state government to eliminate any such instance of damage to public property that happened during the farmer’s protest in Haryana.
Claim Tribunals:
- The new law provides powers to the government to set-up Claim Tribunals, which will assess the amount of damage done and award suitable compensations.
- Claim Tribunals will be headed by Haryana Superior Judicial Services officers, who will be appointed in consultation with the chief justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
