In order to ensure optimum utilisation of technology for public welfare, Gujarat Government has decided to launch Digital Seva Setu Programme for the rural areas. The programme is an initiative under the Centre’s BharatNet project that connects the Village Panchayats through fibre network. Phase-I of the programme that covers 2000 village panchayats and provides 20 types of pro-people services(including providing ration card among others at citizens doorstep) to be launched on October 8, 2020. Another 8,000 village panchayats to be provided this service by december, 2020.

Points to be Noted
i.This programme is also a step to fulfill the vision and mission of Digital India of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
ii.The villages of Gujarat to be connected with a 100 MBPS(Megabits Per Second) optical fibre network under the program. The aim is to make every village a Mini Sachivalay.
iii.As per the provision of Article-3 of Oaths Act-1969, state govt to provide powers of affidavit to the Talati Mantri(revenue officer) at the Village Panchayat level in order that people in rural areas do not have the need to visit the notary offices in towns and cities.
iv.Vijay Rupani, Chief Minister of Gujarathas decided to use E-sign rather than physical signatures.
Key InfoÂ
i.Under this programme, Citizens will be benefited from various public welfare services at the Panchayat level.
ii.Gram panchayats will be connected to the state data centre located at Gandhinagar, under this programme.
iii.Citizens by paying a nominal fee of Rs. 20 can avail the benefits of this programme.
iv.The programme will pave the way to transform over 18,000 villages of Gujarat into Modern and Global villages.
Additional Info
To encompass all the villages of Gujarat under Digital Seva Setu, an integrated and dedicated platform will be made in the time ahead.
Under the programme, all 14,000 gram panchayats of Gujarat will be covered. Remaining villages to be covered by 2021.
Note– Gujarat has been a leader in Phase-2 of the BharatNet project.

On September 17, 2020, Mukhyamantri Mahila Utkarsh Yojana (MMUY), a scheme of providing interest-free loans of Rs 1 lakh to women’s groups was launched in Gujarat by its Chief Minister (CM) Vijay Rupani.
