The make in India machine, manufactured with the guidance of doctors at Indian Medical Association (IMA), was launched by Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani through video conferencing (VC).

Key Points:

i.The machine, prepared in a short span of time, is used to seal the seam of the PPEs so that viruses cannot penetrate from the small pores and infect the coronavirus (COVID-19) warriors fighting to treat those affected by the disease.

ii.The cost of this machine will be as much as 50% less than a foreign machine as at present, these are imported from abroad and its cost is high and the delivery time is 3 to 4 months. The kit is 100% safe only when it is sealed & is 100% air as well as water proof with the help of this machine.

iii.At present, the company will manufacture 200 units in the first batch at a cost of Rs 4 lakh. It will soon be available at affordable prices with adequate service, making it possible for manufacturers of PPE kits in India to supply the sealing machine.

What is Hot Air Seam Sealing?
It is a process of sealing holes made during the sewing process using specialized tape that is applied to a PPE suite based on the principles of hot air to create full water and air proof to resist the virus. In fact, the needle of a sewing machine is about 2 mm in size and the thread is about 0.5 mm in size. Therefore the remaining open pores need to be sealed to avoid the entry of fluid / blood.
