The Union Government has announced names of recipients of Dronacharya Awards, Dhyan Chand Awards and Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar for year the 2015. The awardees will receive the awards from the President Pranab Mukherjee at a special function at Rashtrapati Bhawan to be held on 29 August 2015The National Sports Day.

List of Recipients:

Dronacharya Award 2015
1.       Naval Singh- Athletics Para-sports coach
2.       Anoop Singh– Wrestling coach
3.       Harbans Singh- Athletics coach
4.       Swatantar Raj Singh- Boxing coach
5.       Nihar Ameen- Swimming coach
Dhyan Chand Award 2015
1.       Romeo James– Hockey
2.       Shiv Prakash Mishra- Tennis
3.       P.P Nair– Volleyball
Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar 2015
1.       Directorate General of Military Training (DGMT) – for identifying and nurturing of young talent in sports
2.       Coal India Limited (CIL) – for encouraging sports through Corporate Social Responsibility
3.       Haryana State Police- For employing sportspersons and sports welfare measures
4.       Sports Coaching Foundation (SCF)- For development of sports


 

About the Awards:

Dronacharya Award:

  • Presented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Dronacharya Award is given for excellence in sports coaching.
  • It was instituted in 1985.

Dhyan Chand Award:

  • The highest award for lifetime achievement in sports and games, the Dhyan Chand award is given by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
  • The Award was instituted in the year 2002.
  • The award has been named after the legendary hockey player Dhyan Chand who is also known as the Wizard of Hockey.

Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar:

  • The Award is given to entities, both in public sector and private sector and non-governmental organizations, with a view to recognizing the contribution made to sports development.
  • It was introduced in 2009.
  • It has four categories –
  • Identification and nurturing of budding/young talent
  • Encouragement to sports through Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Employment of sports persons and sports welfare measures
  • Sports for Development
