Government of India has commissioned India’s first Hi-speed rural broadband network using the National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) in the Idukki district of Kerala. The Hi-speed rural broadband network comes under the PM Narendra Modi’s Digital India programme.
The Hi-speed rural broadband network in Idukki was commissioned by Union Minister of Information Technology and Communications Ravi Shankar Prasad. The NOFN offers services like E-health, E-Commerce and E-Education.
The Digital India programme aims at connecting all 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats in India with optical fibre. Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is planning to make Kerala, the first state in the country to achieve 100 per cent digital literacy.
