Govt approves continuation of IVFRT until March 2026The Government of India (GoI) has approved for the continuation of Immigration Visa Foreigners Registration Tracking (IVFRT) Scheme till March 31, 2026 with a period of five years which starts from April 1,2021 and its financial outlay is Rs 1,364.88 crore.

  • In order to Modernize and upgrade the Immigration services, “Immigration, Visa and Foreigners Registration & Tracking (IVFRT)” has been identified and included as one of the MMPs to be undertaken by the Ministry of Home Affairs under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP).

Aim And Objective of IVFRT:

i.The aim is to provide a secure and integrated service delivery framework that facilitates legitimate travellers by strengthening national security.

ii.The main objective for the continuation of IVFRT is the modernization and up-gradation of Immigration and Visa services. 

Functions of IVFRT:

i.The project interlink and optimise the immigration, visa issuance, registration of foreigners and tracking of their movements in India.

ii.It covers 192 Indian Missions across the globe, 108 Immigration Check Posts (ICPs) in India, 12 Foreigners Regional Registration Officers (FRROs) and offices and more than 700 Foreigners Registration Officers (FROs), Superintendents of Police (SPs)/Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) across the country.

Components of IVFRT:

i.Visa, E-Visa.

ii.E-Landing card.

iii.Foreigners registration office.

iv.Immigration control system.

v.Passengers information system.

Growth of IVFRT:

i.Visa and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards issued were increased from 44.43 lakh in 2014 to 64.59 lakh in 2019 at a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 7.7 per cent.

ii.Visa processing time of 15 to 30 days (during pre-IVFRT period) has been reduced to a maximum of 72 hours in e-visas, with 95 per cent of e-visas issued within 24 hours.

iii.In International traffic to and from, India grew from 3.71 crore to 7.5 crore during last 10 years at a CAGR of 7.2 per cent.

International air carrier traffic is air carrier traffic to, from, between or in countries other than the one in which the operator (air carrier) has its main place of business.
