Global Day of Parents 2022

The United Nations(UN)’s Global Day of Parents is annually observed across the globe on 1st June to honour and appreciate the parents across the globe and to create awareness about the importance of quality parenting and family life in every child’s upbringing.

  • The observance of the Global Day of Parents emphasises the critical role of parents in the rearing of children and recognises the family has the primary responsibility for the nurturing and protection of children.

The theme of Global Day of Parents 2022 is “Appreciate All Parents Throughout the World”.

i.The United Nations General Assembly(UNGA) adopted the resolution A/RES/66/292 on 17th September 2012 and proclaimed the 1st June of every year as the Global Day of Parents.

ii.The first ever Global Day of Parents was observed on 1st June 2013.

Global Day of Parents offers a platform to appreciate all parents for their “selfless commitment to children and their lifelong sacrifice towards nurturing this relationship”.

Parenting, taken on by a mother, a father, a grandparent, a sibling or another relative, or another adult, is the job of providing nurturing care throughout childhood, preparing children to live in society.
