Four MoUs Signed during Prime Minister’s Visit to Chhattisgarh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Naxal-affected Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region today. This is Mr Modi’s first visit to the region after becoming the Prime Minister last year.

  • Mr Modi will be the first Prime Minister after Rajiv Gandhi to visit to region to inaugurate development projects.
  • Other prime ministers since Mr Gandhi have visited the region, but for election campaigns.
  • Mr Modi inaugurated four projects there worth a total of Rs. 24,000 crore.
  • He also visited and interacted with students at Education City, Jawanga, Dantewada.
  • The Prime Minister also visited ‘Saksham’ – a school for specially-abled children – and interacted with students there.

MoUs signed at Dantewada :

  • MoU between Govt of Chhattisgarh, NMDC, IRCON and SAIL for 140km rail line between Rowghat and Jagdalpur.
  • Estimated project cost: Rs. 2000 crore.
  • MoU between Ministry of Steel, Govt of Chhattisgarh, SAIL and NMDC for 3 million ton Ultra Mega Steel Plant.
  • Estimated project cost: Rs. 18000 crore.
  • MoU between Govt of Chhattisgarh and NMDC for Slurry Pipeline and 2MTPA Pellet Plant at Nagarnar in Bastar District
  • Estimated project cost: Rs. 4000 crore.
  • MoU between Govt of Chhattisgarh and SAIL for setting up 1MTPA Pellet Plant at Dalli-Rajhara, Balod District.
  • Estimated project cost: Rs. 826 crore.

Information about NMDC :

  • Full form : National Mineral Development Corporation
  • Headquarters :   Hyderabad, India
  • It is owned by the Government of India and is under administrative control of the Ministry of Steel.
  • It is India’s largest iron ore producer and exporter producing about 30 million tons of iron ore from 3 fully mechanised mines in Chhatisgarh and Karnataka.
  • It also operates the only mechanised diamond mine in the country at Panna in Madhya Pradesh.

  • An engineering and construction company, specialized in transport infrastructure.
  • Headquarters : New Delhi
  • A wholly owned entity of the Ministry of Railways
  • Its primary charter was the construction of railway projects in India and abroad.

Information about SAIL :

  • Full Form : Steel Authority of India Limited
  • Headquarters : New Delhi
  • It is a public sector undertaking which trades publicly in the market is largely owned by Government of India and acts like an operating company.
  • SAIL is the 24th largest steel producer in the world.
  • SAIL operates and owns 5 integrated steel plants at Rourkela, Bhilai, Durgapur, Bokaro and Burnpur and 3 special steel plants at Salem, Durgapur and Bhadravathi.
