Former Indian spinner Neetu Lawrence David, along with South Africa’s legendary cricketer Abraham Benjamin de Villiers and former England Cricket team Captain Sir Alastair Nathan Cook were inducted into the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s Hall of Fame as the Class of 2024.
- With this, Alastair Cook, Neetu David and AB de Villiers became 113rd, 114th and 115th inductee in the long list of cricket legends in the Hall of Fame.
- The Class of 2024 will held in Dubai, the United Arab of Emirates (UAE), which will coincide with the conclusion of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
About Neetu Lawrence David:
i.NeetuLawrence David become the 2nd women from India and 10th Indian to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame following the induction of Diana Fram Edulji in 2023.
ii.She played her 1st international match for Indian cricket team at the age of 17 in a Test match against New Zealand in 1995.
iii.She has played over 100 matches (including 10 test match and 97 One Day Internationals(ODIs)match for Indian women cricket team between 1995 and 2008.
iv.She is the 2nd highest wicket-taker for India in women’s ODI cricket with 141 wickets and was also the 1st female Indian cricketer to claim 100 ODI wickets.
v.During her long cricket career, David rose to fame for her spell against England in a Test match in 1995Â where she scalped 8/53.
vi.She took retirement from her cricket career in 2008 with an bowling average of 16.34, which is the best by any bowler male or female, to have taken at least 100 ODI wickets.
About Abraham Benjamin de Villiers:
i.Abraham Benjamin de Villiers who is fondly known as Mr. 360 because of his batting ability to hit shots in all directions.
ii.He became the 8th South African cricketer to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. He retired from all forms of cricket in 2021.
iii.He scored over 20,000 international runs across all the 3 formats of cricket (including Test match, ODI andT20 match) during his 14 year long career.
iv.During his long cricket career, he set various records such as the fastest 50 in just 16 balls, fastest century (31 balls) and fastest 150 (64 balls) in ODI matches, which consolidated his position as one of the most feared, destructive batters in the history of cricket.
About Sir Alastair Nathan Cook:
i.Sir Alastair Nathan Cook , with 12,472 runs in 161 test matches and 35 centuries ,consolidated his position as one of the greatest opening batters in Test cricket history.
- He became the 33rd England player inducted into ICC hall of fame
ii.He achieved various accolades during his 14 year long career, including his pivotal role in England’s two greatest overseas victories such as: 2010-11 Ashes victory and 2012 test series win in India.
iii.He retired from international cricket in 2018, as England’s all-time leading run scorer and is still ranked among the top 6 highest run-scorer of all time in the world.
Note: As part of the ICC’s centennial year celebrations, the ICC and Federation of International Cricketers Association (FICA) jointly established the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame on 2nd January, 2009.
