International Cricket Council (ICC) has named former Indian Cricketer Yuvraj Singh as the ambassador of the ICC Men’s Twenty20 International (T20I) World Cup 2024 which is set to be hosted by the United States of America(USA) and the West Indies from 1st to 29th June 2024.
Points to note:
i.Yuvraj Singh joins West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle, and Jamaican Athlete Usain Bolt (8-time Olympic Gold Medallist) as the first ambassadors of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
ii.As an ambassador, Yuvraj Singh will attend World Cup promotional events in the USA during the T20 World Cup.
Note: The USA is hosting the ICC T20 World Cup for the first time. A total of 55 matches will be played by 20 teams across 9 venues.
About Yuvraj Singh:
i.Yuvraj Singh represented India in 40 Tests, 304 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 58 T20 Internationals (T20Is) between 2000 to 2017.
ii.He became the first player to hit six sixes in one over in T20I.
He achieved the feat in a match against England during the first edition of T20 World Cup held in 2007 in South Africa.
iii.He was a part of the Indian team that won the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011, and ICC T20I World Cup in 2007.
Awards and honours:
He received the Arjuna Award for Cricket in 2012 and he was honoured with Padma Shri for Sports in 2014.
Former Pakistani cricketer Sana Mir named as the ambassador of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier
Sana Mir, Former Pakistan women’s cricketer, has been named the ambassador of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024, being held in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates(UAE) from 25th April to 7th May 2024.
- She has played for Pakistan from 2005 to 2019 and represented the team in 226 international games, 137 of them as captain (2009-2017).
- She won the joint Player of the Series award for the 2008 ICC Women’s Qualifying Series for the Women’s Cricket World Cup.
