The Forbes 2022 list of India's 100 richestAccording to the Forbes’ India’s 100 Richest 2022 list, Gautam Adani, Chairperson of Adani Group, has topped the list with a net worth of USD 150 Billion, nearly tripling his wealth in 2021. Adani has also become the richest person in India and World’s 2nd richest person.

  • Mukesh Ambani Chairman and Managing Director(CMD) of Reliance Industries Limited(RIL) is at No 2 with a net worth of USD 88 billion(5% less compared to 2021).
  • The net worth of Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani accounts for 30% of the total wealth of India’s 100 richest.
  • The combined wealth of India’s 100 richest is at USD 800 billion, this total wealth has increased by USD 25 billion compared to 2021.

Overview of  India’s 100 Richest 2022:

i.According to the list, Gautam Adani is the biggest gainer of 2022 in both percentage and dollar terms.

ii.Radhakishan Damani of DMart chain of supermarkets has ranked 3rd on the list with a net worth of USD 27.6 billion(His net worth has declined by 6% compared to 2021).

  • This is the first time he was featured among the top 3 of the list.
  • He is the richest entrepreneur in India’s Fashion & Retail sector.

iii.Cyrus Poonawalla, CMD of Serum Institute of India is ranked 4th with a net worth of USD 21.5 billion followed by Shiv Nadar Founder of HCL Technologies at 5th with a net worth of USD 21.4 billion.

  • Cyrus Poonawalla is the richest entrepreneur in India’s Healthcare sector

iv.According to the list, with a net worth of USD 16.4 billion, Savitri Jindal, Chairperson of the OP Jindal Group becomes India’s richest woman.

  • She is also the only woman billionaire on the top 10 of the list.

v.The list features 9 new entries, which include, Falguni Nayar, Chief executive officer(CEO) of a beauty and lifestyle retail company, Nykaa, Ravi Modi, CMD of Vedant Fashions Limited; and Rafique Malik, Chairman of Metro Shoes Ltd/India

Key Points:

i.Out of the 100 richest on the list, 60 billionaires witnessed a wealth decline in 2022, only 27 have recorded an increase in wealth in 2022.

ii.Byju Raveendran and Divya Gokulnath of BYJU’S are ranked 54th on the list with a net worth of USD 3.6 billion.

  • Divya Gokulnath along with Nikil Kamath of Zerodha Broking(ranked 58t along with Nithin Kamath) are the youngest billionaires(36 years old) on the list.

iii.Kushal Pal Singh of DLF (19th), Benu Gopal Bangur of Shree Cement (29th) and Lachhman Das Mittal of Sonalika Group(82nd) are the oldest billionaires featured on the list.
