‘Food Processing Week’ - (6 -12) September, 2021The Ministry of Food Processing Industries(MoFPI) has announced the celebration of the Food Processing Week from 6th to 12th September 2021, as a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence.

The MoFPI has been organising various events as a part of the Food Processing week.

Events:

A seed capital amount of Rs 1.06 crore has been transferred to 12 District Project Management Units (DPMU) of State Rural Livelihood Mission for 311 Self Help Group (SHG) enterprises under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme in the State of Chhattisgarh.

MoFPI Inaugurated 5 food Processing Projects:

Pashupati Kumar Paras, Union Minister for Food Processing Industries and Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of State for Food Processing Industries virtually inaugurated five food processing projects in the states of Assam (1), Gujarat (3) and Karnataka (1).

Key Points:

i.The total cost of these 5 projects is around Rs 124.44 crores and the grant from MoFPI is around Rs 28.02 crores.

ii.These projects will provide direct and indirect employment to about 820 people and benefit about 7700 farmers in the catchment area.

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana:

i.Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (Scheme for Agro-Marine Processing and Development of Agro-Processing Clusters) launched in 2016 to boost the growth of food processing sector.

ii.This is a comprehensive scheme that provides for creating modern infrastructure with robust supply chain management from farm gate to retail outlet.

On March 31, 2021, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the Central Sector Scheme- ‘Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI)’ with a total outlay of INR 10, 900 Crores.

Duration: six-year period from 2021-22 to 2026-27.
