The first phase of Kerala’s dream project i.e. SmartCity project has been jointly initiated by state’s CM Oommen Chandy and UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammad Al Gergawi. The project includes Rs 400 crore 6.5 lakh sq ft information technology tower.
- The project is a joint venture of Dubai Holding and Kerala government which is pegged to provide 5,500 knowledge based jobs.
Apart from the first phase inauguration, ministers also launched 4.7 million sq ft phase-two. It will be completed in 36 months and provide 60,000 jobs.
About Phase 2 of project:
- The phase two will have 7 towers in it, including the tallest IT tower in India in the 8 million sq ft project by Sands Infrabuild, the IT division of Lulu Group.
- The projects of UAE based Holiday Group, GEMS International School, Bengaluru based Maratt Projects Pvt Ltd, Prestige Group and Kochi based Elton Technologies, apart from SmartCity’s own tower are to feature in phase-two.
- The phase-two would also feature non-IT buildings.
About Smart city Mission
Launched in 2015, Smart Cities Mission is an urban renewal and retrofitting program by the Government of India with a mission to develop 100 cities all over the country making them citizen friendly and sustainable. The Union Ministry of Urban Development is responsible for implementing the mission in collaboration with the state governments of the respective cities.
